Hollow parts can either be produced from tubes, by deep-hole drilling during or after the pressing operations, or they may be pressed into the part during metal forging operations.  There is a wide variety of technologies and know-how available.  The appropriate process is selected by experienced engineers, taking into consideration the material grade, the necessary heat treatment, the dimensional accuracy and the later function of the part in an automotive environment.
