Saarschmiede GmbH Freiformschmiede stands for steel manufacturing and processing in highest quality: Our core business is the manufacturing of big shafts and generators for the Power Generation Machinery. Further high quality open die forged products are delivered worldwide in the business fields of General Machinery and Tool Steel as well as the business field of Special Alloys.

The company, consisting of one older and one new forging line, combines tradition and innovation. While the old forging line is celebrating this year its 100 year jubilee the new forging line has started production on May 8, 2010, after a pure construction period of not more than 2 years. The total invest amount of 450 Mio. Euro is one of the largest single invests, not only in the federal country Saarland, but as well in the whole Federal Republic of Germany. Saarschmiede is considered as the most modern open die forge of the world.

Connected to the extension of the existing steel mill the new forging line has been built in two main buildings with each of them of 550m length and a third service building in the same length, oriented straight along the required production and process flow. The construction was completed by invests in state of the art equipment: From forging furnaces, pre- and final machining lathes up to a hydraulic 12.000t under floor press.

Around 800 highly skilled employees are working today in both forging lines.
